daffodils

Daffodils fuel good trouble.

What the heck does this mean? Well, 2026 is… interesting. Midlife realities paired with very real-life atrocities inevitably overshadow my being at times. It’s a lot.

I can’t prevent the chaos in my family, my community, or society. I don’t have that kind of control. But I can look for moments of beauty. I can choose experiences that bring me some form of joy.

Daffodils bloom at the end of winter, right at the beginning of spring. I see them on my runs, on my walks, and as I drive down the road. I’ve started intentionally noticing them — taking a few seconds to admire their brightness. It’s becoming a routine. Almost like scrolling, but the opposite. Addictive in a way that actually gives something back.

They’re an external resource that requires very little from me and offer an incredible amount of energy in return.

When I’m exhausted, depressed, anxious, or caught in whatever mind fuckery is happening that day, I remember that nature is there. A partner I can confide in. A source of abundance that doesn’t argue, fix, or demand — it just exists.

And sometimes that’s enough.

  1. My best friend shared a photo of purple flowers pushing up through dead leaves on the ground on Sunday. Yesterday, I responded with a photo of daffodils doing the same in mine.* Today, two newsletters in my inbox talked mentioned daffodils and the late winter blooms.

It reminded you of scrolling, but the opposite. It reminded me of when “everyone” is talking about the same episode that just came out. But the opposite.

Instead of entertainment, it’s soul fulfillment.

    1. The world…the FLOWERS are trying to tell us something!! Done with their winter hibernation, now is the time to be strong, bright, and in contrast to our surroundings. Is that the soul message?
