sounds of a hike

leaves crunching under foot

the breeze whistling around the trunks of trees

squirrels scampering

chipmunks hiding

a woodpecker searching for grubs

a bird of prey warning all the little creatures

water bubbling from under a rock

a stream swooshing down the path

rocks scraping together underfoot

the rubbing of my arms against my sides as I walk

the air filling my lungs

my heartbeat in my ears

background

this past weekend i joined a group of CRAPpy people (it’s a great group despite the name) at one of the most amazing places in georgia, hike inn. i have written about hike inn before and will most likely write about my adventures there again. it’s an inn, about 5 miles from the amicalola falls, that you have to hike to. brilliant idea that attracts like minded adventurers and explorers. from hike inn you can get to springer mountain and then to the start of the appalachian trail or AT.

it was a time for self care, self love, and reconnection. i went solo while laura stayed home with the kids. i am grateful. i desperately needed this time alone with my thoughts, with these sounds, and amongst others that gave me the space to do so.

more photos and videos of my hike in adventure over at flickr! looking for the ones with sounds I heard and recorded? here you go: trail, water, and foot bridge
